Remarkable natural setting of Dalmatian Zagora will speak for itself. It certainly caught the eye of the producers of the hit TV series Game of Thrones (GOT) for a reason. By visiting the Klis fortress You will have the opportunity to see the settings of the GOT’s city of Meereen.
ITINERARY
Departure from Split at 8.30 am. Pick up at the place of your accommodation. Either with a vehicle or your guide will meet you there, depending on the accessibility of the location. Driving from Split towards the impressive medieval Kliss fortress. Due to its location on a pass that separates the two mountain: Mosor and Kozjak, the fortress served as a major source of defense throughout the history, especially against the Ottoman Empire, and has been a key crossroad between the Mediterranean belt and the Balkan rear. Looking back into the etymology of the name Klis, from a Greek word Kleisa meaning the key, it certainly got the name that fits it right- the key to Dalmatia.
The tradition of the knights’ tournament called Alka dating from 18 th century is kept until today and held every year in August in Sinj celebrating the anniversary of Sinj’s victory over Turkish invaders.
Within the tour of the fortress you will experience one of the most mesmerizing views of the central Dalmatia and its island archipelago. Playful colors of wondrous nature will tease your eyes with the pointed peaks of the mountains, green lands with its blue river waters flowing into the Adriatic sea holding the set of islands on the horizon.After Klis fortress we shall drive down to the banks of the river Cetina heading to the most important town of Dalmatian inland – the town of Sinj. Rich in culture and age- old tradition Sinj is best known as the town of Croatian Medieval knights called Alkars. The tournament itself is under UNESCO nonmaterial world heritage list.
After seeing the knights legacy and visiting the new Alka’s heritage museum, we are going to have a coffee on a main square and afterwards head to Radman home farm in a village Rude situated on the water spring called Ruda where we are going to have a traditional lunch. There you will try the local homemade cooking nowadays quite rare to experience.
After lunch we are heading back to Split and expected to arrive around 6.00 pm.
